Two kids resurrect an extraterrestrial demon and control him with an amulet. Sounds like a fun romp! And Psycho Goreman delivers: Featuring exquisite gore effects, Steven Kostanski’s outrageous, totally whacked-out combination of mid-’80s kids fantasy movie and mid-’90s kids TV show is one of this year’s outstanding party movies. What will ultimately get any genre fan’s heart pumping are the incredibly detailed alien monsters, all hand-crafted and ingeniously brought to life with analog whimsicality. This flick is shrill, colorful, and dumb—exactly the way we (hopefully) remember our own childhood.

What starts off as a cheesy homage to 80s and 90s TV ads soon turns into a nightmare world with the characters becoming the centre of a frenzied reign of toy-based-terror.

Steven Kostanski
is a Canadian director, writer, and movie make-up artist who is part of Astron-6, a Canadian film production and directing company founded in 2007, which is known for low-budget, 1980s-centric independent movies that often combine horror with comedy. Kostanski, together with Jeremy Gillespie (also Astron-6), directed the horror film The Void, intended as a departure from Astron-6's more comedic work. The film showcases more of Kostanski’s creature and practical effects as seen in Astron-6's earlier films. Kostanski is known for his work on The Void (2016), Father's Day (SLASH 2012), and ABCs of Death 2 (SLASH 2014).
