Naoto was already a loner way back when he was a teenager—such a wallflower that he might as well have been invisible. Eleven years on, he looks for and finds the only person who paid a modicum of attention to him back then, and he develops an ominous obsession for the young woman. Sneaking around the house in which she now lives with her husband and their baby, Naoto becomes witness to gruesome events. The Japanese genre specialist Mari Asato roots her intelligent stalker thriller in an unforgiving naturalism that thwarts simplistic formulas of good versus evil, making it a pretty damn challenging affair for the viewer.
Mari Asato
is a horror movie director who began her career as a photographer working with Kiyoshi Kurosawa. In 2004 she made her feature debut with Girls for Independence. In 2005, The Boy from Hell premiered at the Frankfurt Film Festival. Since then, she has expanded her field of work to TV dramas such as Tales of Terror. In 2009, Asato directed Ju-On: Black Ghost, which was screened as part of the Female Terror retrospective at SLASH 2019. Bilocation merged horror, mystery and human drama elements, much to the excitement of an ever-widening audience.
