Northern England in the mid-seventeenth century: After her plague-ridden husband hangs himself, Grace becomes her landlord’s target of interest. As the young woman rejects his advances, he spreads rumors about her being in league with the devil. Enter England’s most ruthless witch hunter, Moorcraft: With The Reckoning, British genre heavyweight Neil Marshall serves up a juicy slab of witchspoitation, going at it with a thunderous dramatic arc, raucous characters, and an exceptionally cathartic revenge plot—triggering memories of the subgenre’s heyday in the 1970s.
