What to do if delicious seafood originally meant as shrine offerings suddenly disappears, only to reappear a few moments later as gigantic kaiju, dead set on reducing the Greater Tokyo Area to dust? For us viewers, the answer is simple: Sit back and enjoy! Japanese cult director Minoru Kawasaki has been handcrafting amazingly adorable rubber-monster movies for decades. The modest budget, among other things, affords him the kinds of liberties that make his movies soar to the top of their class. Where else, for instance, can you see monster attacks fringe off into an haute-cuisine bonanza that creates the most delectable culinary delights from chopped-off pieces of kaiju? Well, there you have it!

Minoru Kawasaki
is a Japanese director and writer who began his career with mostly self-financed work, including the Den-Ace short films, featuring a parody of kyodai-style Japanese superheroes. He is best known for the genre of low-budget parodies with surreal humor and traditional practical effects. Kawasaki had his first big hit with The Calamari Wrestler (2004) and followed up with Executive Koala (2005) and Kabuto-O Beetle (also 2005), another wrestling-themed movie. His Kaiju Mono was presented as Austrian premiere at the SLASH 2016.
